Vehicle Selection
A full line of vehicles from compact sedans to large SUVs – Mini Cooper convertibles, Toyota Sienna hybrid vans, large and small SUVs and Jeeps (2 & 4 door versions) are offered. If a Jeep or SUV is rented it will come with appropriate beach driving stickers. Beach driving instructions are given with each such rental (how to and where allowed) are addressed.
Commercial rates and accounts are available to qualified companies.
We sell most of our vehicles after each summer. These vehicles are low mileage and are covered by their new vehicle warranty. Many of these vehicles are sold to dealers and are offered to the
public at similar prices the dealers are paying.
A valid driver license and matching credit card are required to rent from us.
Drivers of Jeeps and SUVs are required to be 25 years of age
and drivers of all other vehicles must be 21 years of age.
Renter and spouse are qualified drivers
- all other must be listed.

Do I need a vehicle on Nantucket?
Definitely - Nantucket is a unique and beautiful destination. You should take in the vistas of Great Point and Sconset as well as the beaches which surround the island with the calm waters of Dionis and surf at Cisco. Many points of interest, activities, rental properties and restaurants are located away from the in-town area.
Can I rent a vehicle without a reservation?
Reservations are highly recommended – especially during the busy season but we welcome “walk-ups”.
Are there age restrictions to rent a vehicle?
To rent a sedan, convertible or van the renter as well as any additional drivers must be at least 21 years of age. To rent a Jeep or any of our SUVs renters and additional drivers must be at least 25 years of age.
Do your vehicles have beach permits?
All Jeeps and most of our SUVs have both the Town beach sticker as well as the Great Point stickers. Our RAV4s may not be permitted for Great Point this summer – to be determined. Beach permits are only required on vehicles actually driving on the beach – you can park in the lots of beaches without a permit.
Does Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental offer discounts?
Our prices are generally lower than those of our competition – even after their various discounts are applied. We offer daily, weekly and monthly rates. For longer term rates please call our office and management will create an advantageous rate for you.
Where is Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental located?
Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental is located in the main arrival terminal of the Nantucket Memorial Airport as well as 21 Airport Road. We deliver to or pick customers up at the HyLine, the Steamship Authority and just about anywhere on the island. (Time restrictions apply).
What is your cancellation policy?
While all reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card you can alter or cancel your reservation with no penalty up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled arrival.
Are your vehicles new?
90% of our vehicles have been purchased new in the spring and early summer of each season. The remaining 10% are less than a year from their purchase date. We have the most modern and lowest mileage fleet available on Nantucket.
How much are the taxes on your rentals?
All vehicle rentals in Massachusetts are subject to the Massachusetts Sales tax of 6.25%, a one-time Chapter 90 surcharge of $0.60 and a one-time Law Enforcement Training surcharge of $2.00. Rentals which take place actually on the Nantucket Memorial are subject to an additional surcharge of 10% as well as a Customer Facility Charge.
Does Windmill sell their vehicles to the public at the end of the season?
While most of the vehicles are sold to dealers, we offer those same vehicles (covered under their original new vehicles warranty) at similar prices to the general public – a substantial savings versus dealers’ pricing. Contact us.
